Introducing Icom's New MXA-5000 Dual Channel AIS Receiver
Since AIS (Automatic Identification System) was introduced it has been rapidly taken up as an essential safety aid. Primarily used by commercial shipping for identification and location, the AIS system exchanges information such as MMSI number, position, course, and speed. Today with the introduction of the MXA-5000 dual channel AIS receiver owners of leisure and small craft can benefit from this safety technology.

Save Our Sealife!
Few people can fail to be moved by the all too frequent whale, seal and dolphin strandings that occur in and around the UK. With an unprecedented amount of strandings to deal with this year, it's thanks to the organisation BDMLR (British Divers Marine Life Rescue) that many of them are returned to the wild, or, if this is unachievable, humanely put to sleep. ICOM UK is proud to have recently provided radio communications to the BDMLR to support the scores of dedicated BDMLR teams around the UK.

Badger Bags A Buoyant Bounty
Ray Bradman and his dog Badger were recently out for their daily walk along Woodside Bay on the Isle of Wight, when Badger sped off towards the sea for some playing and splashing. Shortly afterwards, Badger came bounding back with an IC-M33 he'd found in the surf. When Ray eventually prised the radio off Badger, he found that it was still working perfectly, even though it had been submerged for some considerable time!

The new IC-GM651 is designed for Class A DSC operation and provides a complete GMDSS VHF communication system as required for Commercial SOLAS regulated vessels engaging in international voyages. ICOM helps local youth to Sail His Dream
This summer Jack Daly, a 16 year old boy from Herne Bay, will be heading off on a long awaited fundraising sailing trip around the UK. ICOM has provided Jack with an IC-M421 VHF and an IC-M71 VHF Portable so that he may stay in constant contact with his support team throughout his endeavour. Not content with the already massive burden of GCSE study and exams that he faces over the next few months, this extraordinary young man plans to sail singlehandedly around the UK in an attempt to raise money for Sailability (Royal Yachting Association).

The race is on! More than 80 boats, crew and support teams are preparing for the first 'Round Britain Powerboat Race' in 23 years. The race promises to be an action-packed, non-stop endurance event and will be one of the most spectacular British marine sporting events seen in recent years.

Ten Down The Thames
ICOM UK is pleased to be contributing three IC-M31s VHF radios to the participants of 'The Thames 100 Mile Non Stop Kayak challenge'; the latest fundraising endeavour of a dedicated group of sports enthusiasts from High Wycombe. The 10-strong team are hoping to raise £20,000 for the charity BDF Newlife by kayaking 100 miles down the Thames non-stop from Cricklade, North Wiltshire to Marlow in Buckinghamshire; a feat that will take about 30 hours.

ICOM supports The Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship 2008
The Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship, supported by ICOM UK , was off to a flying start as young sport-boats enthusiasts competed in the first local heats of 2008. Welton Waters Sailing Club, near Hull, was the first venue this year to host the event, on Saturday 3rd May. The Championship is a test of speed and boat handling, and Saturday's race kicked off the search to find this year's champion.
